It’s Nice to Meet You
About Me
My name is Lee Cummings, and I am an Associate Therapist at Inner Star Therapy, a unique virtual mental health practice committed to treating clients holistically. After going through a career change, I decided to go back to grad school to become a therapist. I was greatly impacted by the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut where I grew up. This sparked my interest in working with those who have experienced different forms of trauma and how that impacts them somatically. After working in international relations and live events, I was inspired to pursue a career in mental health after seeing the beneficial impact of my own trauma therapy.
I got my master’s at Southern Connecticut State University in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have developed a particular interest in women’s mental health, specifically perinatal mental health, stemming from my previous work in gender equality in the workplace. Before creating Inner Star Therapy, I worked in private practice, working with a wide range of clients and subject matter, as well as inpatient, working with disordered eating and running groups centered on mind body re-connection.
I have done trainings at the Seleni Institute in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, as well as loss and grief. I work with individuals, couples, and groups to navigate these transitions and challenges. I am also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and have trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
While in this virtual space, I foster empathy and understanding towards individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I will show up authentically to support whatever goals you bring to sessions.
Outside of the therapy room, I love reading, knitting for my loved ones, and walking my dog, Ruby.
My Values:
I believe it is important for you as the client to know where your therapist’s values align. That allows you to make an informed decision about if this is the right space for you to feel the safest when seeking therapeutic support. This is just a glance at my values, but I do not tolerate racist, homophobic/transphobic or sexist language in sessions. This is a pro-choice, sex positive and queer affirming space that is open to all individuals looking to explore new insights, rediscover their sense of self, and foster resilience.
